In a recent interview on CNN's "The Source," Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg expressed his disapproval of former President Trump's attacks against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Buttigieg labeled Trump's remarks as "mushy and lazy," questioning whether the former president's heart is still fully invested in the political race.
During a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump accused Governor Walz of being "heavy into the transgender world" and "heavy into lots of different worlds having to do with safety." Buttigieg responded to these comments by highlighting the lack of substance and coherence in Trump's attacks, stating, "Sometimes you get the feeling that Trump's heart isn't in this anymore, the laziness of his attacks, not to mention the lack of any coherent account of what he's actually gonna do to make Americans' lives better."
Buttigieg, who was previously considered as a potential running mate for Vice President Harris, ultimately ran alongside her in the Democratic presidential primary in 2020. Both politicians now hold prominent roles in the Biden administration, with Harris serving as vice president and Buttigieg as head of the Department of Transportation.
Harris recently selected Governor Walz as her running mate, a decision that has generated enthusiasm and energy among Democrats. She has held several rallies with large crowds in the past week, raising questions about crowd sizes at Trump's Mar-a-Lago press conference. In response to the inquiry, Trump dismissively countered, "Oh, give me a break. Listen, I had 107,000 people in New Jersey, you didn't report it. What did she have yesterday, 2,000 people?"
According to an average of national polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, Vice President Harris and former President Trump are now neck and neck in terms of support, with Trump garnering 47.4 percent and Harris closely following with 47.2 percent. The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for further comment.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, it appears that the exchange between Buttigieg and Trump highlights the increasingly heated nature of the race and the differing strategies employed by the candidates.
