In a shocking and devastating incident, four members of a Brooklyn family, including two young children, were found stabbed to death in their Bensonhurst apartment, according to police reports on Saturday. The prime suspect, believed to be the uncle of the two children, is in custody and being questioned for the gruesome multiple murders.
The horrifying scene was discovered by the suspect's brother, who returned home to the first-floor apartment on W. 8th St. near Ave. P on Friday evening. In the building hallway, the brother encountered his sibling, who was scratched and covered in blood. When asked about their mother's whereabouts, the suspect mumbled something before leaving the building.
Upon entering the apartment, the distraught father discovered the lifeless body of his mother, 56-year-old Fayzieva Mavlyuda, in the living room, a victim of multiple stab wounds to the neck. As he continued his search, he tragically found his wife, 27-year-old Maftuna Khakimova, stabbed to death and wrapped in a sheet in a bedroom. The bodies of their two young children, 5-year-old Kamila Shavkatova and 4-year-old Timur, were discovered in a closet in another bedroom, stuffed in laundry bags.
The entire family had been brutally stabbed, with no apparent motive revealed at this time. The suspect responsible for the stabbing spree returned home while police were at the scene and was promptly taken into custody. Criminal charges are pending against him.
The community, which includes many Uzbeki, Russian, and Georgian families, is in shock and disbelief over the tragedy. Witnesses recalled seeing the devastated father outside the building, sobbing, while relatives and neighbors tried to offer consolation.
Police investigators, while at the scene, were unable to locate the murder weapon and suspect that the suspect may have discarded it after leaving the apartment. Detectives believe that the killing was the result of an ongoing domestic dispute.
This horrific incident marks the second time this month that police have responded to a grisly scene where a family member fatally stabbed their relatives. Just days earlier, on July 4, a 20-year-old man from Queens was shot and killed by the police after fatally stabbing his 8-year-old stepbrother. He had been holding a knife to his father's neck when the officers arrived.
The local community is reeling from these violent acts as they struggle to comprehend the unimaginable tragedy that has befallen these families. As investigations continue and more details emerge, authorities will work tirelessly to bring justice and provide support to those affected by these senseless acts of violence.
