Deputy Hunter Reedy Fatally Shot in Smyth County Incident
In a tragic turn of events, Deputy Hunter Reedy, a 27-year-old father of three, lost his life in a shooting incident that took place on Friday in Smyth County. Virginia State Police have identified Reedy as the deputy who was fatally shot during a traffic stop. Another deputy, who was also shot, is currently recovering in the hospital from minor injuries.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident unfolded when Marion Police initiated a traffic stop on Route 16. However, the driver failed to stop until reaching the intersection of Route 16 and Hatchery Drive. During the stop, the driver opened fire on the officers and deputies, striking both deputies.
