SAN ANTONIO - Jonathan Joss Gonzales, a voice actor renowned for his roles in "King of the Hill" and "Parks and Recreation," was fatally shot on the South Side of San Antonio on Sunday evening. The incident occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Dorsey Street.
When officers from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to the scene, they discovered Gonzales near the roadway, having suffered from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, EMS pronounced the actor dead at the scene.
Gonzales, who voiced John Redcorn from seasons 2 through 13 of "King of the Hill" and portrayed Ken Hotoate in "Parks and Recreation," was shot in front of his mailbox. Police believe the shooting resulted from a neighborhood dispute. The suspect, 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has been apprehended and charged with murder.
Tristan Kern de Gonzales, Gonzales' husband, took to Facebook to share harrowing details, stating that their home had been torched following two years of threats from neighbors. Upon returning to check their mail, they found distressing evidence of a previous crime against their pets and soon faced homophobic slurs before Gonzales was shot.
Community members report that Gonzales had ongoing issues with his neighbors. A resident expressed their shock and sadness upon hearing the news, stating, "I can't believe it reached this limit. No one deserves to die that way."
San Antonio Police Department records indicate multiple previous calls related to disturbances and shots fired at both Gonzales' and Ceja's residences. Specifically, there were calls recorded at Gonzales' home in May and December of 2024 and even on the day before the shooting.
The tragic event comes just as anticipation builds for the "King of the Hill" revival series, which will premiere on Hulu on August 4, 2025. Gonzales had appeared at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, speaking emotionally about his recent adversities, further highlighting the turbulence he faced as part of his final public engagement.
