In a devastating turn of events, the Utah State University football community is in mourning after the untimely death of 22-year-old cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. The school confirmed that Seldon passed away in an apparent cliff-diving accident at a nearby reservoir.

According to a statement from the Cache County Sheriff's Office, Seldon was last seen diving off Porcupine Reservoir in Utah. However, he did not resurface, and his body was tragically discovered by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team at 9:05 p.m. on Saturday.

Seldon, who recently transferred from New Mexico State to play for Utah State this fall, had previously showcased his talents during two seasons at Michigan. His presence on the field was highly regarded, and his loss will undoubtedly leave a significant void in the football program.

The interim head coach and defensive coordinator, Nate Dreiling, expressed his heartfelt condolences, stating, "Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own. Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre's family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss."

Diana Sabau, the vice president and director of athletics at Utah State University, also shared her deep condolences to Seldon's family, friends, teammates, and all who loved him, emphasizing that the entire athletics community is devastated by his sudden death.

Seldon's impact on the football field was notable, having recorded 53 tackles and one interception in 15 games during the 2023 season, where he played a key role in New Mexico State reaching the Conference USA championship game.
