Fatal Crash on Sagamore Bridge in Massachusetts Leads to One Death and Teenage Driver in Custody

Bourne, Massachusetts - A tragic multiple-car crash occurred on Friday night on the Sagamore Bridge, resulting in the death of one woman and the arrest of a 19-year-old driver. Massachusetts State Police quickly responded to the incident that took place at the base of the bridge on Route 6 West, just before 7 p.m.

According to authorities, the driver, identified as 19-year-old Paul Myers from Plymouth, attempted to illegally pass a vehicle in the left lane by veering into the right lane. However, there wasn't enough space for Myers's vehicle to maneuver, and it collided with a Toyota Corolla. The impact caused the Corolla to lose control, hitting a curb, and subsequently spinning across the median, ultimately crashing into a car traveling in the opposite direction.

Tragically, one of the passengers in the Toyota Corolla, 79-year-old Martha Sheldon, succumbed to her injuries. The driver, an 83-year-old man, sustained serious injuries in the collision. The exact nature of their injuries has not been disclosed.

Upon further investigation, authorities suspected that Paul Myers was operating his vehicle under the influence of drugs. He was arrested at the scene for suspicion of driving while impaired. It is a heartbreaking turn of events as this fatal accident could have potentially been prevented.

As a result of the crash, both lanes of Route 6 East and the left lane of Route 6 West had to be closed for several hours as authorities secured the scene and conducted their investigation. Commuters were redirected and faced significant delays during the closure. However, by midnight, all lanes of traffic were reopened, providing some relief to the evening travelers.
