In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the lifeless body of a 2-year-old boy, Jacoby Robinson Jr., was discovered in a dumpster near Lewis Avenue and 15th Street in Las Vegas. Investigators from 8 News Now have obtained documents that reveal a horrifying chain of events leading to the tragedy.

According to the obtained documents, the mother of the child, Diaja Smith, allegedly beat Jacoby to death before placing his body in the dumpster. Shockingly, it is further alleged that Smith pushed the lifeless body in a stroller with his twin brother and another sibling. Smith's partner, Jacoby Robinson Sr., faces child abuse charges connected to the case, which prosecutors have stated will be upgraded to open murder.

The devastating incident unfolded on June 6, when Smith reported Jacoby missing from a park near Charleston Boulevard and 15th Street. At the time of the report, Smith was accompanied by her two other children, including Jacoby's twin brother. It was later revealed that Smith had regained custody of her children in May, after having lost custody two years prior.

Police investigations have shed light on Smith's relationship with Robinson Sr. While Smith claimed she had not seen Robinson Sr. in over a year and a half, he informed authorities that he was homeless but had been granted access to Smith's apartment. Surveillance footage from Smith's apartment complex also showed her carrying one child, with two other children in a stroller. Disturbingly, it appeared that Jacoby was motionless in the footage, leading investigators to suspect that he was already deceased at the time.

Upon discovering Jacoby's body in the dumpster, police noted "significant signs of physical injury to [his] head, torso, and buttocks." The investigation also revealed that Jacoby's twin brother had sustained severe injuries, including a brain bleed. As a result, the twin was listed in critical condition at the time of Smith and Robinson Sr.'s arrest. The third child was immediately placed into the custody of Child Protective Services.

Smith denied any involvement in physically harming her children, asserting that Jacoby had suffered a seizure a day prior to his death. However, Robinson Sr. informed police that he had witnessed Smith abusing one of their children in the past and claimed that she had beaten Jacoby with a belt on the day of his untimely demise.

During court proceedings, prosecutors disclosed that Robinson Sr. admitted to being present in the apartment while the child was being beaten. He allegedly saw Jacoby vomiting and assisted in clearing his mouth and nose before the child went back to sleep.

Both Robinson Sr. and Smith appeared in court, where a judge ordered them to be held without bail. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday. As of now, the conditions of the surviving children remain unknown.

This tragic case serves as a chilling reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting the most vulnerable members of society, and raises questions about the effectiveness of the child custody system. The authorities involved will undoubtedly be thorough in their pursuit of justice for Jacoby and his siblings, in the hopes of preventing such horrific incidents from occurring in the future.
