**Deadly Collision in Northern Mexico Claims 19 Lives, Injures Six**

A tragic accident occurred in northern Mexico on Saturday when a cargo truck collided with a passenger bus, resulting in the death of at least 19 people and injuring six others. The authorities initially reported a higher fatality count of 24 but later revised the number to 19 based on updated information from first responders.

Rodrigo Reyes, a senior official from Zacatecas state, explained in a statement, "Following rescue efforts and expert work carried out at the scene, the confirmed number is, unfortunately, 19 people." He also noted that six individuals are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

The accident unfolded on a highway linking Zacatecas with Aguascalientes when a container filled with corn detached from a truck, causing a bus carrying 25 passengers to overturn. The bus was en route from Tepic in Nayarit state to Ciudad Juárez near the US border.

As a result of the collision, the highway was closed off to traffic. Reyes added that the army, National Guard, and civil protection forces were mobilized to manage the situation.

Traffic accidents have been increasingly common in Mexico, with the total number of incidents rising from just over 300,000 in 2020 to 381,048 last year. According to the Inegi national statistics institute, these accidents led to 4,803 deaths and more than 90,000 injuries in the previous year alone.
