### Endicott College Officer Killed by Wrong-Way Driver on I-95

A tragic accident on Interstate 95 has claimed the life of an Endicott College police sergeant, according to Massachusetts State Police. The fatal incident occurred close to midnight when authorities were alerted to a wrong-way driver traveling southbound between New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

State troopers tracked the wrong-way vehicle through the Newburyport area and attempted to intercept it by setting up a tire-deflation device in Georgetown. However, before the vehicle could reach Georgetown, it collided with a Chevrolet Trailblazer in Newbury.

The driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, identified as 49-year-old Jeremy Cole of Exeter, New Hampshire, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cole, an Endicott College police sergeant, was returning home after completing his evening shift.

The wrong-way driver's vehicle was operated by a man in his 40s from southeastern Massachusetts. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Boston. Authorities indicate that he is expected to face charges related to the crash.

Endicott College Chief of Police Kerry Ramsdell expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Cole as a dedicated public servant and valued member of their team. "This is an incredibly difficult time for our department. We are heartbroken by this unimaginable loss. Sgt. Cole was not only a dedicated public servant and prior recipient of a lifesaving award, but also a cherished member of our team," Ramsdell stated.

The incident led to the closure of both directions of I-95 for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
