Rochester, N.Y. - A devastating accident on I-90 East claimed the life of a Thruway worker and left another in critical condition on Thursday, according to Trooper Lynnea Crane of the New York State Police (NYSP). The incident occurred in a work zone when a 64-year-old man driving a tractor-trailer struck the two workers.

Tragically, a 62-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 58-year-old man was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed at this time.

The NYSP spokesperson, Trooper Crane, stated that there is no evidence of drugs or alcohol playing a role in the crash. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, and thus far no charges have been filed.

Trooper Crane stressed the importance of attentiveness and slowing down on the roads, referring to the incident as a preventable tragedy. She urged all drivers to exercise responsible driving habits and emphasized the need to be cautious, particularly when approaching work zones or stationary vehicles.

Earlier today, another Thruway Authority maintenance worker lost his life while setting up a work zone on I-90 in Henrietta. Additionally, one worker was injured in the same incident and remains in serious condition. The identities of the victims from this separate incident have not yet been disclosed.

New York State residents are reminded of the life-saving skill of responsible driving, and the need to remain vigilant, slow down, and move over when encountering work zones or stopped vehicles. It serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of prioritizing the safety of those working on the roads.

As the investigations continue, the eastbound lanes between LeRoy and Henrietta will remain closed for several hours. Drivers are advised by the NYS Thruway Authority to seek alternate routes or anticipate delays.

This devastating accident serves as a somber moment, with prayers for the recovery of the injured worker and condolences for the families affected. The first responders who quickly came to the aid of their fellow public servants are commended for their swift and supportive actions during this difficult time.
