In a tragic incident, a 3-year-old boy has lost his life and his twin brother remains hospitalized in critical condition after ingesting or being exposed to an unknown substance in Canoga Park. The boys' mother has been arrested on suspicion of murder, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

The distressing events unfolded on Thursday morning when officers received a distressing call regarding a child death investigation in the 20000 block of Sherman Way. Upon arrival, authorities found the twins unresponsive, prompting immediate medical attention and their subsequent transportation to a hospital.

Despite the best efforts of firefighter-paramedics, one of the boys was pronounced dead at the hospital. He has been identified as Josiah James by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The other child remains in critical condition, fighting for his life.

An initial investigation has revealed that the toddlers had either ingested or been exposed to an unidentified substance. As a result, their mother, Jestice James, was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of murder. Her bail has been set at $2 million.

Authorities have clarified that no further investigation is being conducted on the other residents of the home. The case is currently being handled by the Los Angeles Police Department's Juvenile Division/Abused Child Unit, indicating the seriousness of the incident.
