**Tom Hanks Speaks on Daughter E.A. Hanks' Revealing Memoir About Her Troubled Past**
Tom Hanks has recently shared his thoughts on his daughter E.A. Hanks' candid memoir that delves into her tumultuous childhood. During an interview with Access Hollywood, the renowned actor expressed his pride in his daughter's courageous exploration of her past. Hanks remarked, "I'm not surprised that my daughter had the wherewithal as well as the curiosity to examine this thing that I think she was incredibly honest about. We all come from checkered, cracked lives, all of us."
Hanks continued to praise E.A., saying, "She's a knockout, always has been. If you've had kids, you realize that you see who they are when they're about 6 weeks old. Their personality is on display right there, their temper, the way they see the world is demonstrated in their body language and on their face."
E.A. Hanks, officially Elizabeth Anne, released her memoir on April 8, shedding light on the challenges she faced growing up as the daughter of two Hollywood personalities. She shared heartfelt stories about her upbringing, including the "violence" and "deprivation" she experienced. E.A. reflected on her status as a child from her parents' "First (non-famous) Marriage" and recounted sparse memories of seeing them together.
Her mother, actress Samantha Lewes, who was known off-screen as Susan Dillingham, passed away from lung cancer in 2002 at the age of 49. Lewes and Hanks were married from 1978 until their separation in 1985. Following their divorce in 1987, E.A. and her brother Colin initially lived with their mother in Sacramento. However, things took a turn for the worse when Dillingham's behavior allegedly became abusive, leading E.A. to move to Los Angeles during her seventh-grade year.
E.A.'s memoir also details a meaningful and adventurous journey she undertook in 2019, retracing a road trip she had taken with her mother years earlier along Interstate 10 to Florida. Her experiences during the six-month journey inspired the title of her book, "The 10."
In the memoir, E.A. also reflects on her relationship with her stepmother, Rita Wilson, and her half-brothers, Chet and Truman. Hanks and Wilson married in 1988, a year after his divorce from Dillingham was finalized. They welcomed Chet in 1990 and Truman in 1995. E.A. affectionately described Wilson as "my other mother" and acknowledged the strong bond they've shared since her early childhood.
"When I say my parents, I really mean my dad and Rita, because they've been together since before I can really remember," E.A. shared with People, highlighting the enduring presence of Wilson in her life from around the age of four or five.
