The Tennessee Titans are gearing up for their season opener against the Chicago Bears, despite facing some injury concerns among key players. On Friday, the team returned to the practice field at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park to continue their preparations.
Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has shown promising progress, practicing for the third consecutive day after being listed as questionable on the official Injury Report. Coach Brian Callahan expressed confidence in Hopkins, stating that he has received ample practice and that it is now a matter of ensuring he is fully conditioned and ready for the game. Hopkins, who had been sidelined since July 31 due to a knee injury, is expected to be a game-time decision.
Safety Jamal Adams, however, will not be able to take part in Sunday's game due to a hip injury. Coach Callahan provided an update, mentioning that Adams' injury turned out to be more significant than initially anticipated. Despite this setback, Adams is on track to return to practice soon, with the coaching staff ensuring he is fully recovered before taking the field.
Linebacker Otis Reese has also been ruled out for the opener due to a concussion. Meanwhile, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie joins the list of injury concerns after being listed as questionable with a calf injury. Awuzie's participation in the upcoming game will depend on his recovery progress.
Turning to the Bears, their final Injury Report reveals four players listed as questionable: wide receiver Keenan Allen (heel), defensive linemen Montez Sweat (toe), DeMarcus Walker (groin), and Darrell Taylor (foot). Defensive lineman Zacch Pickens has been ruled out due to a groin injury.
In other Titans news, tight end Josh Whyle has expressed his intention to wear a Guardian Cap during Sunday's game and throughout the 2024 season. Having previously suffered a concussion, Whyle prioritizes his safety over aesthetics.
Off the field, Titans punter Ryan Stonehouse, along with former Titan Tarell Basham, has launched an ALS campaign aimed at raising funds and awareness. Stonehouse plans to donate $500 for every punt made inside the 20-yard line, with Basham matching his pledge to support the Team Gleason foundation.
As the Titans prepare for their season opener, linebacker Kenneth Murray reflects on being elected as a team captain and shares his thoughts on the team's defense and more.
With the season opener just around the corner, the Titans face a mixture of optimistic progress and injury concerns. The coaching staff will closely monitor the status of the injured players leading up to game day, making crucial decisions to maximize the team's performance and chances of victory.
