The Greenville County Coroner's Office has revealed the identities of the three women who lost their lives in a devastating crash on Interstate 85. The victims have been identified as Manisha Rajendra Patel, Sangita Bhavnesh Patel, and Rekhaben Dilip Patel, according to the coroner.
The tragic incident occurred around noon at Staunton Bridge Road, involving a 2020 Volvo SUV. While the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries, the three women tragically succumbed to the impact of the crash.
Authorities report that the Volvo SUV was speeding in the northbound lanes of Interstate 85 before veering off the road onto the right-hand shoulder. From there, it ran up the embankment, crashed through the cement bridge embankment, and astonishingly soared over all four lanes of traffic. The vehicle then crashed through a cluster of trees on the other side of the roadway, plummeting down an embankment. The force of the collision was so intense that the Volvo shattered into pieces and became entangled in the trees, some as high as 20 feet above the ground.
Ellis, an official at the scene, shared that the victims' family members were alerted about the crash when the vehicle activated an alert system. Distressed, the family quickly notified acquaintances in Greenville and were en route to the area as of Friday afternoon.
The Greenville County Coroner's Office is working diligently to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident. The exact cause of the crash, as well as any contributing factors, are still under investigation.
