In a startling incident in Dixon, Illinois, three sheriff's deputies were shot while responding to a report of threats being made by an individual at a residence in the Lost Lake community. The suspect involved in the incident was also wounded.

Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle revealed that the deputies had received a call from a concerned family member regarding threats of self-harm or harm towards others within the home. Negotiators attempted to establish contact with the individual over the phone, but eventually made the decision to enter the residence shortly before noon.

However, upon entering the house, the deputies came under gunfire from within the residence, according to VanVickle. The sheriff initially refrained from providing additional details about the suspect, including their identity, age, or place of residence.

Following the shooting, the injured individuals were swiftly taken to Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon. Hospital officials disclosed that two of the victims were treated and released, while the condition of the third individual remains undisclosed.

The investigation into the incident will be handled by the Illinois State Police, as confirmed by Sheriff VanVickle. However, there is no immediate response from the agency regarding the case.

Aerial footage provided by local media showcased law enforcement vehicles and personal cars parked along unpaved roads in the neighborhood. Officials were observed gathering in small groups, but there appeared to be limited ongoing activity. Notably, yellow police tape cordoned off at least one driveway, while a mobile command center from the Ogle County Sheriff's Office was stationed nearby.

Lost Lake, an unincorporated area near Dixon, Franklin Grove, and Oregon, is described by its property owner's association as a "country style community" with approximately 700 residents. Situated around 100 miles (160 kilometers) west of Chicago, it is now the site of an ongoing investigation following this alarming shooting incident.

The motive behind the threatening behavior and the subsequent shooting remains unclear, as law enforcement authorities continue their work to gather more information about this incident.
