Three individuals sustained injuries after a collision involving a military vehicle occurred on southbound I-75 in West Chester on Wednesday, leading to the closure of the highway for at least an hour. The incident took place around 11:08 a.m.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP), the accident involved a military Humvee, a freightliner, and a tractor-trailer, all traveling southbound on I-75. Initially, both the Humvee and the freightliner were positioned in the right exit lane to I-275 west, while the tractor-trailer was in the right middle lane.

OSP reports that the Humvee merged into the right middle lane before moving back into a right exit lane. During this lane change, the Humvee collided with the side of the freightliner, forcing it back into the right middle lane where it subsequently struck a Peterbilt truck. The force of the impact caused the Humvee to flip over and veer off the right side of the road, landing in a line of trees nearby.

Tragically, one of the occupants inside the Humvee was ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash. They were immediately transported to the University of Cincinnati hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The two other individuals in the Humvee sustained minor injuries and were also taken to the same hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, the drivers of both the freightliner and the tractor-trailer were unharmed in the incident.

The crash prompted the closure of the highway for no less than an hour, causing significant traffic congestion throughout the area. Although the lanes have since been reopened, the aftermath of the accident resulted in hours of heavy traffic backups. Additionally, some vehicles were rerouted to the northbound lanes, leading to closures on that stretch of the highway as well.

The military units involved in the crash belonged to the 637th Chemical Company based in Kettering, Ohio. They were en route to training in Indiana when the collision occurred. The 637th Chemical Company is a part of the Ohio National Guard.

At present, the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
