In a major breakthrough, authorities have arrested three individuals in relation to the shooting death of Charles Jones, also known as "Julio Foolio," a popular rapper from Jacksonville. Jones was tragically gunned down in an ambush attack while celebrating his birthday at a hotel in Tampa back in June.
The Tampa Police Chief, Lee Bercaw, joined forces with Hillsborough County State Attorney Suzy Lopez and Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters to announce the arrests on Monday afternoon. Additionally, they revealed that warrants have been issued for two other individuals believed to be the actual gunmen.
All five suspects, who are from Jacksonville, have been charged with premeditated first-degree murder and other serious offenses. The recently apprehended individuals are identified as Isaiah Chance, 21, Alicia Andrews, 21, and Sean Gathright, 18, and were taken into custody over the weekend in Jacksonville.
Police investigations indicate that Chance and Andrews tracked and followed Jones and his entourage to multiple locations, where they made phone calls. Subsequently, a second suspect vehicle would arrive at each location before tailing Jones and his group to the Home 2 Suites on McKinley Drive, where the fatal shooting occurred.
Gathright, along with the two outstanding suspects, Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy, are believed to have fired the shots that claimed Jones' life. Notably, all those involved in the shooting are associated with rival gangs ATK and 1200, which have a longstanding feud with Jones' gang, 6 Block.
The Tampa police presented surveillance footage during the press conference, which showcased the suspects stalking Jones. The shooters, dressed in all black, can be seen sneaking around the hotel's parking lot before opening fire on the vehicle Jones was in. Police disclosed that the three gunmen were armed with a handgun and two rifles.
Tampa authorities emphasized that these arrests represent a significant milestone in curbing urban violence in Florida. The investigation relied on evidence such as surveillance videos, license plate readers, and phone logs to identify the vehicles involved and link them to the suspects.
Although Jones lost his life in the attack, three others were injured but managed to survive the shooting outside the hotel. Hillsborough County State Attorney Suzy Lopez made a stern declaration, stating that the ongoing feud ends here and pledged to prosecute each defendant diligently to ensure justice is served in the calculated murder of Charles Jones.
