### Theresa Nist Opens Up About Her Divorce from Gerry Turner: "It's Not Just the Location Thing"
Theresa Nist has shed new light on her split from Gerry Turner, following her victory on the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor. Despite initial rumors suggesting distance was the primary issue, Theresa has now revealed that their breakup involved more complex factors.
Theresa, who resides in New Jersey and continues her career as a financial services professional, was married to Gerry, a retired resident of a rural town in Indiana. The couple tied the knot in January 2024 but parted ways just three months later.
Speaking on the "Almost Famous" podcast, Theresa expressed, "You really can't know somebody in four weeks. That's all I can say." She emphasized that her reluctance to delve deeper was intentional, adding, "It's not just the location thing. That's all I'll say."
When prompted about the potential influence of distance on their relationship, Theresa admitted that proximity might have given them "a better chance" at staying together. She elaborated on their failed plans to establish a shared home, noting, "I wasn't ready to sell my home until we found a home. We never got to that point. Gerry suggested alternating between six weeks in each location, but I wanted a single, big home for our family to visit. I didn't want to shuttle between homes."
Theresa also reflected on their rapid decision to wed, which took place just weeks after The Golden Bachelor finale aired. "They weren't offering [the wedding] later. It was now. And we said, 'If we really are going to get married, we should do it because we're going to get the wedding of our dreams.' We are older, why waste any time? Do it now," she explained, citing a time constraint on the wedding offer.
Despite the breakup, Theresa remains hopeful about love. "You just think the world wants a love story and they want you to move. You don't know how you're going to feel until you're really faced with that decision," she reflected. "It's very difficult. I do want to be in love. I do want to be with someone. I think love is, for me, the most important thing, and it's love of family and having a partner in life that I want."
Theresa's candor provides fans with a deeper understanding of the challenges she and Gerry faced, extending beyond mere geographical distance.
