In a shocking and tragic incident, a Texas man, identified as Alek Isaiah Collins, has been arrested and charged with murder and kidnapping after allegedly shooting two women and abducting a 10-month-old girl in New Mexico. Federal investigators have revealed that Collins had previously made threatening statements, leading to a mental health evaluation and a prohibition on purchasing firearms.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded on May 3 at Ned Houk Park near Clovis, New Mexico, where authorities discovered the lifeless bodies of Samantha Cisneros and Taryn Allen lying near a silver Dodge minivan. Sadly, Cisneros' 5-year-old daughter was also found with a gunshot wound to her head and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A subsequent search of the scene revealed items belonging to a baby, including a stroller and bottle, suggesting the presence of a missing child. This prompted a swift response, with law enforcement issuing an Amber Alert in an effort to locate 10-month-old Eleia Maria Torres.
Days later, law enforcement located the missing baby girl safely with Collins in Abilene, Texas. Collins now faces federal charges of interstate kidnapping of a child, along with state charges of first-degree murder, child abuse, and kidnapping, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Mexico.
Federal investigators have uncovered disturbing details about Collins' history. They revealed that in 2023, Collins contacted the FBI twice, demanding help in finding his alleged missing 5-year-old daughter. However, it remains unclear if Collins indeed has a child. During one call, he made threatening statements, leading to the involvement of the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office for a mental health evaluation.
The following month, Collins called the FBI again, making alarming claims that if law enforcement did not assist him in locating his daughter, he would "start killing people and children." He even stated that he had kidnapped a woman and her son to pressure the authorities. The FBI alerted Texas law enforcement, but they were unsuccessful in contacting Collins. Investigators noted that during this call, Collins appeared to be intoxicated and was unable to provide the names of his alleged daughter or the child's mother.
Collins, during his interviews with law enforcement, insisted that he did not possess any weapons and had no intention to harm anyone. He stated that his threatening statements were merely an attempt to receive assistance in finding his daughter. However, investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shootings and kidnapping.
Further revelation from the complaint indicated that both Samantha Cisneros and Taryn Allen, both 23 years old, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Additionally, Cisneros' body showed signs of being struck or dragged by a vehicle, as evidenced by wounds on her lower legs and abrasions on her back.
Investigators found a side-view mirror cover from a maroon vehicle at the crime scene, along with baby items. The complaint revealed that Collins had rented a maroon Honda in Texas before the incident. GPS data from the rental car showed it traveling from Houston to Clovis, with surveillance footage placing the vehicle near the park less than an hour before the shootings. A witness reported seeing the driver of the maroon car communicating with the driver of the minivan.
Following the shootings, the GPS data revealed that the maroon vehicle traveled at high speed from Clovis to a residence in Abilene, where it remained until Collins' arrest on May 6. The owner of the vehicle reported it stolen when Collins failed to return it on time, leading to its remote disabling.
Collins was apprehended as he exited the residence, carrying the abducted baby. He then reportedly forced an Uber driver out of the vehicle at gunpoint and attempted to flee. However, officers swiftly pursued and apprehended Collins, bringing the terrifying ordeal to an end.
The motive behind Collins' atrocious actions remains unclear, and investigators have stated that they do not believe he has any relation to the victims. As the legal proceedings continue, the community mourns the loss of the two innocent lives and offers support to the survivors impacted by this senseless act of violence.
