**Terrorist Attack at Turkish Defense Company Leaves Five Dead and Several Injured**
At least five people lost their lives and 14 others were injured in a terrorist attack at the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) headquarters, according to Turkey's interior minister, Ali Yerlikaya. Yerlikaya condemned the attack, describing it as "heinous" on social media platform X, and confirmed that two of the assailants were killed.
Witnesses reported hearing explosions and gunfire at the facility located approximately 20 miles north of Ankara. The interior minister, speaking with the media, revised the death toll upwards twice as updates on the situation became available. Among the injured, some were reported to be in critical condition. "May our martyrs rest in heaven, I wish a speedy recovery to our wounded," Yerlikaya expressed in his statement.
Local mayor Selim Cirpanoglum disclosed that the attackers arrived at the TUSAS facility using a yellow taxi and two separate explosions occurred at the site. The attack coincided with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's attendance at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. During the summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his condolences to Erdogan regarding the tragic incident.
President Erdogan condemned the attack in a statement, designating it as "a despicable attack" and confirmed the neutralization of both attackers. This incident follows a history of insurgency from ethnic Kurds seeking independence. The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), involved in the conflict, is recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey and its allies, although some Kurds view its members as freedom fighters.
The attack occurred shortly after an ally of Erdogan suggested that the PKK's incarcerated leader, Abdullah Ocalan, could be permitted to speak in parliament, provided he announces a cessation of hostilities.
