In a new development, Cairo is arranging meetings between Palestinian political factions Fatah and Hamas to deliberate on the future governance of Gaza after the war. The discussions are expected to focus on forming a committee to administer Gaza, as per a top Egyptian security source cited by Egypt's Al Qahera News TV. Hamas is also pushing for these talks to result in a comprehensive agreement that includes a hostages-for-prisoners swap deal, which would potentially bring an end to the ongoing conflict.
Simultaneously, tensions between Israel and Iran have surged. Iran's supreme leader issued a stern warning to both Israel and the United States, promising a "crushing response" to any attacks on Iran and its allies. According to an informed source close to Israeli leaders, intelligence has indicated that Iran may be planning an imminent attack on Israel.
On the ground, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have intensified their operations in northern Gaza's Jabalya area. This marks their third deployment in the region since the conflict began. Recently, Israeli units encountered armed Hamas operatives who attacked with RPGs. The Israeli soldiers neutralized the threat by locating and eliminating the shooters.
In Lebanon, Israeli naval forces conducted operations in Batroun, where they raided a residence and apprehended a high-ranking Hezbollah operative. Saudi media outlet Al-Hadath reports that the detainee is a senior official within Hezbollah's military wing, overseeing weapons and maritime activities.
According to Gaza's health ministry, the death toll among Palestinians has reached at least 43,314, with 102,019 more wounded since the conflict erupted on October 7, 2023. Additionally, an Israeli airstrike in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut, a known Hezbollah stronghold, resulted in 11 injuries, as reported by the Hezbollah-affiliated news channel Al Mayadeen.
In northern Israel, a building in an industrial zone sustained damage due to the interception of a drone that had been launched from Lebanon. In a related development, the Israeli military announced the killing of Hezbollah's coastal sector commander and the head of its artillery unit in Tyre, Lebanon. These commanders were reportedly responsible for firing over 400 projectiles at Israel during the past month.
