In a surprising turn of events, Kyle Gass of the popular rock comedy duo Tenacious D has been dropped by his talent agent, Michael Greene of Greene Talent, following a controversial joke about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Rolling Stone has confirmed the decision, with Greene stating in an email, "We have parted ways after what happened in Sydney. Thank you."

The incident occurred during Tenacious D's recent performance in Sydney, Australia, when Gass made an unfortunate comment onstage. While wishing someone a happy birthday, he added, "Don't miss Trump next time." Although the audience responded with laughter, this remark caught the attention of right-wing politicians in Australia, who called for Tenacious D's deportation in response.

Following the incident, Jack Black, Gass's longtime friend and bandmate in Tenacious D, made a statement announcing the cancellation of all remaining tour dates and the pause of future creative plans. Black expressed his surprise and disappointment about what was said, emphasizing that he does not endorse hate speech or political violence in any form. He further stated, "After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding."

Gass took to social media to issue his own apology, acknowledging that his improvised comment was highly inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake. He made it clear that he does not condone violence and expressed deep regret for his lack of judgment. The musician apologized to those he has let down and expressed profound remorse for the pain he has caused.

Unfortunately, Tenacious D had several more shows scheduled throughout Australia and New Zealand this month, all of which will now be canceled. Additionally, a five-show run leading up to the 2024 election, in partnership with Rock the Vote, has been put on hold indefinitely.

While Gass's talent agent, management team, and publicist did not immediately respond to requests for comments, it is evident that the consequences of his ill-considered remark have had a significant impact on his professional relationships and the future of Tenacious D.

This incident serves as a reminder of the power of words and the responsibility one has when speaking publicly. The controversy surrounding Gass's joke emphasizes the need for sensitivity and thoughtful consideration, particularly in today's highly polarized political climate.
