In a recent statement, former US President Donald Trump expressed his admiration for pop star Taylor Swift's beauty while questioning the authenticity of her political beliefs. Trump's remarks came as Swift's highly anticipated "Eras" tour arrived in the UK, with Edinburgh being one of the stops.

Describing Swift as "unusually beautiful," Trump speculated on her political stance, pondering whether it was merely an act. The former president revealed that he believed Swift to be liberal and expressed surprise that a country star could thrive with such a political outlook. Trump admitted that he was not familiar with Swift's music but confessed that his opinion of her had dwindled by 25% since her public foray into politics.

Swift broke her years-long political silence during the 2018 US midterm elections when she publicly supported Democrat candidates Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper. She also encouraged her fans to register and vote. Prior to that, the songstress faced criticism for remaining silent on Trump ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Notably, Swift allowed her music to be used in a political advert for the first time in 2020. Her song "Only The Young" featured in a commercial supporting the Democratic Party and urging people to vote. The artist has been vocal about her disapproval of Trump's actions, accusing him of "stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism."

Trump's remarks about Swift's political beliefs ignited a response from his allies, who promised a "holy war" against the singer. However, the accusations of disloyalty did not deter Swift from using her platform to advocate for voter registration, which resulted in a surge of visitors to the Vote.org website.

While Trump claimed credit for signing the Music Modernization Act into law in 2018, Swift did not benefit significantly from the legislation. Nonetheless, the former president asserted that he had made the star "so much money" throughout her career and criticized her decision to endorse Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential race.

Despite being found guilty on all 34 counts in a hush-money case, Trump has expressed his intention to run for presidency in the 2024 election. The verdict stands as a historic moment, making Trump the first-ever US president to be convicted of a crime. As he awaits sentencing on July 11, Trump maintains that the true verdict will be determined by the people on November 5th.

Looking ahead, Swift's influence continues to be recognized in political circles. California governor Gavin Newsom, a top Biden surrogate, believes that Swift could have a profoundly powerful impact on the 2024 presidential election.

While Taylor Swift remains celebrated for her musical talent, her fearless advocacy for political issues has sparked discussions and challenged the perception of success in the country music industry.
