Authorities in Seminole County, Florida have made significant progress in the investigation into the carjacking and murder of a woman, revealing a potential connection to another homicide case. Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma announced that the vehicle driven by the suspects in the carjacking has been located and identified as a green Acura. The vehicle, which was found abandoned, is now being examined for possible evidence.
The investigation surrounding the brutal carjacking and slaying of Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas took a new turn when detectives discovered similarities between her case and the killing of a tow truck driver. The tow truck driver's body, identified as Mr. Cintron Garcia, was found alongside a green vehicle matching the description of the Acura. The authorities have not yet established a motive or identified any suspects in Garcia's murder.
Seminole County Sheriff Lemma emphasized the significance of physical evidence in linking the two cases together conclusively. However, he expressed a strong belief that the deaths of Garcia and De Aguasvivas are connected. Cellphone video footage captured the Acura following De Aguasvivas' vehicle before a gunman forcefully entered her backseat at a red light. Sheriff Lemma described the suspect as wearing a black hoodie and a mask, armed with what appeared to be an automatic handgun.
In another development, an SUV believed to be connected to the carjacking was discovered badly burned in a construction area. Investigators were unable to conclusively identify the vehicle due to the extensive damage. Inside the burned SUV, authorities found twelve shell casings.
The timeline leading up to the carjacking reveals that De Aguasvivas had contacted her husband, informing him that someone had rear-ended her vehicle and was following her. Unfortunately, neither of them contacted the authorities during this time. Sheriff Lemma expressed concerns about the husband's silence and accused him of withholding information. However, he clarified that the husband is not considered a person of interest or a suspect at this time.
Adding another layer of complexity to the case, an Orange County sheriff's deputy, Francisco Estrella, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies. Estrella allegedly leaked information about the investigation to De Aguasvivas' husband, including details of the Seminole County investigation and the home address of the lead detective. Estrella's wife is a family friend of De Aguasvivas' husband. He has been relieved of his law enforcement duties and is currently under investigation.
The authorities in Seminole County continue to work diligently to uncover further evidence and locate the suspects involved in the carjacking and slaying. The connection between these two crimes raises concerns and highlights the importance of cooperation and vigilance within these ongoing investigations.
