Suspect Charged in Two Connected Shootings Near North Broadway in Knoxville

In a disturbing turn of events, a man has been charged in connection with two separate shootings that occurred on Saturday morning near North Broadway in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Knoxville Police Department strongly believes that these incidents are related.
The suspect in question, identified as 28-year-old Robert Scruggs, has been charged with felony murder in relation to a shooting at Anderson Automotive as well as first-degree murder in the shooting in the 400 block of North Broadway. In addition to these charges, Scruggs is also facing allegations of especially aggravated armed robbery, carjacking, business burglary, and two counts of felony evading arrest.
According to the authorities, the motive behind these shootings remains unknown. The first shooting took place at Anderson Automotive and Towing on Cooper Street around 9 a.m., where officers found a man with at least one gunshot wound. Sadly, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at UT Medical Center.
An initial investigation suggests that the victim was responding to an alarm at the business when he encountered the suspect and was shot. Reportedly, the suspect fled the scene in the victim's black Kia Sorento.
Shortly after the incident at Anderson Automotive, officers received a distress call regarding a second shooting in the 400 block of North Broadway. Another man was found with gunshot wounds and was also pronounced dead at UT Medical Center.
Knoxville Police have interviewed multiple possible witnesses at the scene and believe that the second shooting is directly linked to the incident at Anderson Automotive.
During their investigation, the police located the stolen Kia and attempted to apprehend the suspect. However, the driver, later identified as Robert Scruggs, refused to stop and evaded officers. Eventually, authorities lost sight of the vehicle in the vicinity of Dandridge Avenue. Surprisingly, they discovered the abandoned Kia parked outside a residence on Morningside Drive. Scruggs was subsequently found and taken into custody.
Chief of Police Paul Noel expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, stating that the department is committed to preventing violent crime and swiftly bringing offenders to justice. He commended the officers and detectives for their collaborative efforts that led to the apprehension of the suspect.
The investigation into both shootings is ongoing, and the Knoxville Police Department is determined to uncover all the details surrounding these tragic incidents.
