Two-time Super Bowl champion linebacker Shaquil Barrett has officially announced his retirement from professional football after a successful nine-year career in the NFL. The 31-year-old shared the news on social media, stating that it was time for him to "hang it up" and shift his focus towards his family.

Barrett, who recently signed with the Miami Dolphins, made the decision to retire a few days before the start of the team's training camp. The former undrafted free agent first made a name for himself with the Denver Broncos in 2015, contributing to their Super Bowl 50 victory in his rookie season. During his time in Denver, Barrett started 15 out of 61 games and recorded an impressive 14 sacks.

Following his stint with the Broncos, Barrett found a new home with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he truly flourished under head coach Bruce Arians' defensive scheme. In his first season with the Buccaneers, Barrett led the league with 19.5 sacks, earned his first Pro Bowl selection, and played a pivotal role in the team's journey to Super Bowl LV.

Despite suffering a torn Achilles in the following season, Barrett showcased his resilience by returning to the field in 2023.
