### Abortion Rights Ballot Measures Succeed in 7 of 10 States

In a significant move reflecting the public’s opinion on abortion rights, voters in seven states have approved ballot amendments that establish the right to abortion in their state constitutions. This continues a wider rejection of the abortion bans enacted after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Notably, Missouri, which was the first state to enact an abortion ban following the Supreme Court's decision in 2022, also became the first state where voters chose to end such a ban through a ballot measure. The amendment was approved by 52 percent of Missouri voters. Similarly, in another Republican-controlled state, Montana, a comparable amendment passed with 57 percent of the vote.

The success of these measures extended to battleground states as well. In Nevada and Arizona, over 60 percent of voters supported measures to enshrine the right to abortion in their state constitutions. These victories highlight a broad consensus among voters across different states regarding abortion rights.

However, the abortion rights movement did encounter setbacks. Initiatives to amend the state constitutions to recognize abortion rights were rejected in Florida, South Dakota, and Nebraska, all of which are Republican-controlled states. These defeats mark a pause in what had been a series of successful ballot measures advocating for abortion rights post-Roe.

While celebrating their wins, supporters of abortion rights remain cautious. They warn that potential actions from a second Trump administration could undermine the newly established state-level protections, showcasing the ongoing battle in the fight for reproductive rights in the United States.
