Eyewitness David Rodriguez recalled hearing what he initially mistook for fireworks when he pulled into a nearby gas station. He soon witnessed the suspect firing shots and people fleeing from the grocery store. First responders rapidly arrived at the scene, and Rodriguez observed broken front windows of the Mad Butcher grocery store, appearing to be shattered from gunfire.
Matthew Gill, the meat manager at the store, revealed that the shooter entered with a shotgun and engaged in a shootout with the police.
