According to a recent public opinion survey conducted by Fox News, President Donald Trump's lead over Democratic nominee Joe Biden in Florida has narrowed to just 4 points. The survey, which included 1,075 registered voters, shows Trump at 50% and Biden at 46%.

The Florida Democratic Party wasted no time in highlighting the poll results, claiming that "Donald Trump is in trouble in Florida." They referred to the survey as evidence that Florida has once again become a battleground state. However, the RealClearPolitics average still shows Trump leading Biden by 8 percentage points.

The only other poll that showed Biden closing the gap with Trump in Florida was a St. Pete Polls survey conducted in March which had Trump ahead by 6 points, 48%-42%. It is important to note that the Fox News poll focused on registered voters, not "likely" voters. Pollsters have long acknowledged that not all registered voters will actually cast their ballots.

The survey, conducted from June 1-4, came after Trump's conviction on 34 felony counts for falsifying business records in New York. Interestingly, the poll also took into account the presence of third-party candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein. When included, Trump's lead expanded to 7 points, with 47% support, followed by Biden at 40%, Kennedy at 7%, West at 2%, and Stein at 1%.

While Stein is running for the Green Party nomination and guaranteed to be on the ballot if nominated, Kennedy Jr. has yet to be officially placed on the Florida ballot as the Reform Party candidate. West's party also has not held a nominating convention that would secure him a spot on the Florida ballot.

In addition to the presidential race, the Fox News survey also revealed favorable numbers for two important measures on the November ballot in Florida. Amendment 3, which seeks to legalize recreational cannabis for adults over 21, garnered support from 66% of respondents, with 32% opposing it. Likewise, Amendment 4, which aims to establish abortion rights until viability, received 69% support, with 27% opposing.

Republicans, however, dismiss this Fox News survey as an outlier, claiming that it leans more left than the expected turnout. Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power stated, "This is an outlier poll and more left leaning than turnout will be."

Overall, the survey has brought attention to the tightening race in Florida, with Trump's lead slimming to just 4 points. As the election approaches, both campaigns will undoubtedly ramp up their efforts to win over voters in this key battleground state.
