September 17, 2024 - In a recent interview on Fox Business, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, a Republican from Alabama, expressed his concerns over the safety of former President Donald Trump following a second apparent assassination attempt. Tuberville called for the military, specifically Navy SEAL teams, to provide security for Trump, emphasizing the need to protect the "only guy that has a chance to get this fixed."
Senator Tuberville voiced his frustration with what he perceived as a lack of concern from the current administration, stating, "President Biden- I don't know who's running our country but somebody needs to step up and at least act like they care about a Republican candidate." He added, "They could care less. There needs to be SEAL teams, there needs to be military."
Tuberville expressed his belief that another attempt on Trump's life is imminent before the November election. "They're going to do everything they possibly can to keep him out of office," he asserted. Tuberville went on to highlight the resilience of Trump, referring to him as "Teflon Don," but emphasized his worry for Trump's family and the future of America.
The interview followed two recent incidents involving potential assassination attempts on Trump. On July 13, a 20-year-old man named Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to shoot Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, but was swiftly neutralized by the Secret Service. The second incident involved Ryan Wesley Routh, who camped outside a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, armed with a rifle and premeditated intentions. However, a Secret Service agent foiled the potential attack by opening fire.
AL.com reached out to Senator Tuberville's office for clarification on whom he referred to as "they" and if he was advocating for military protection for Trump. In response, Mallory Jaspers, Tuberville's communications director, explained that the senator was referring to "psychopaths" and called for President Biden and Vice President Harris to provide Trump with full presidential protection.
During a press conference, Senator Tuberville attributed these assassination attempts to the divisive rhetoric propagated by politicians and celebrities. He claimed that labeling Trump as a threat to democracy and using words like "Hitler" and "fascist" would inevitably incite violence. Tuberville warned of the potential for more copycat attacks, emphasizing the need to take proactive measures to prevent further harm.
In his continued appeal for heightened security for Trump, Tuberville called on President Biden and Vice President Harris to take immediate action. He stressed the inadequacy of relying solely on the Secret Service and proposed the involvement of various agencies, such as the Rangers, Navy SEALs, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to bolster protective measures.
As the debate regarding the safety of former President Trump escalates, the calls for enhanced security measures grow louder. It remains to be seen how the Biden administration will respond to these demands amid the charged political landscape.
