In a tragic incident early Sunday morning, a driver lost their life after crashing along U.S. Highway 90 in San Antonio. The San Antonio Police Department reported that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred.
The fatal crash took place shortly after 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and South General McMullen Drive. According to authorities, the driver of a white Toyota Camry was heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 90 when they collided with a traffic attenuator, which separates the main lanes of the highway from the exit ramp.
Despite the best efforts of emergency responders who swiftly arrived at the scene, the male driver, whose identity remains unknown, was pronounced dead on-site. The cause of death has been stated as blunt force injuries sustained in the accident.
This tragic incident marked the second consecutive weekend that the area has witnessed a fatal crash. Exactly one week prior, another driver crashed into the same traffic attenuator at the U.S. Highway 90 eastbound exit for South General McMullen Drive. Sadly, that driver, a woman, also lost her life, succumbing to injuries sustained in the crash.
Both accidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with excessive speed and the importance of observing traffic regulations. The San Antonio Police Department will likely continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crashes to determine if any additional factors contributed to the tragic outcomes.
As the community mourns the loss of these two lives, it is crucial for drivers to remain vigilant on the roads and prioritize their safety, as well as that of their fellow road users.
