Search and rescue teams in Florida continue their efforts to locate a missing diver, Virgil Price, who disappeared over the weekend near a World War II-era shipwreck. Meanwhile, authorities have discovered an unidentified male body during the search, but have confirmed it is not that of the missing diver.
According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, the body, which was found on Monday, does not match the description of the missing diver. The clothing and physical characteristics of the body found do not correspond to Price, who was last seen wearing a green wet suit and is 39 years old. The authorities emphasized that they have yet to identify the recovered body.
The body, estimated to weigh between 200 and 225 pounds and believed to be over 50 years old, did not show signs of prolonged exposure to water. Medical examiners are working to determine the cause and approximate time of death, hoping to shed light on the identity of the deceased individual.
Despite an extensive search effort, covering an area of 1,415 miles and lasting 36 hours, the U.S. Coast Guard announced the suspension of the search for Virgil Price. This decision was made after careful consideration, and the Coast Guard expressed their condolences to Price's family.
With the search suspended for Price, the focus now turns to identifying the body found and determining the circumstances surrounding their death. The investigation into both cases remains ongoing.
Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the missing diver or the unidentified body to come forward. Updates on the search for Virgil Price and the investigation into the discovered body will be provided as more information becomes available.
