In a targeted attack early Saturday morning, drones belonging to Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) struck an oil depot located in the Tsimlyansky district of the Russian Rostov region, sources within law enforcement agencies confirmed to the Kyiv Post. The resulting fire consumed various brands of gasoline and diesel fuel, totaling approximately 12.5 thousand cubic meters, stored at the facility.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing an explosion followed by a plume of smoke rising from the oil depot. The Russian Mash Telegram channel revealed that at least two drones were involved in the attack, with one of them crashing onto the depot's grounds. The facility stored AI-92, AI-95 gasoline, and diesel fuel, as stated by Mash.

Vasiliy Golubev, the governor of the Rostov region, also confirmed the drone attack on the oil depot. The incident has already caused political tensions, with some Republicans blaming President Biden and conspiracy theories spreading on social media platforms.

According to sources, the SBU's use of drone attacks aims to impose targeted economic sanctions on Russia's energy complex, which they claim supports the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The source added that more than three dozen successful strikes on Russian oil depots and refineries have already significantly reduced Russia's oil refining capacity and revenue. They further warned that such sanctions will continue to intensify.

A video capturing the drone attack on the oil depot was published online by the Russian Telegram channel Astra. The footage showed a security guard attempting to shoot down the drones using an anti-drone gun, but his efforts were unsuccessful.

The exact motive behind the SBU drone attack on the Russian oil depot remains unknown, but it signifies the escalation of tensions between Ukraine and Russia. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing geopolitical conflicts that threaten stability in the region.
