In a tragic incident that unfolded at the Tallywood Centre in the 3400 block of 17th Street, a person has turned himself in to authorities in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of a former Braden River football player and injured his brother, a current Auburn football player. Darryl Brookins, the suspect in the case, surrendered to Sarasota County deputies as confirmed by his attorney to ABC7.
The shooting occurred on Saturday, and it claimed the life of Tommie Battie IV, a promising young athlete who once played for Braden River. Tommie's brother, Brian Battie, who currently plays for Auburn football, was also wounded in the incident. According to Hugh Freeze, the head coach at Auburn University, Brian is currently on a ventilator, fighting for his recovery.
