In a disturbing turn of events, a massive television tower in Kharkiv, Ukraine, was struck by a Russian missile, according to Ukrainian officials. The top section of the tower crashed to the ground, as captured in videos circulating on social media.

The incident occurred when the structure was hit by a Kh-59 cruise missile, as confirmed by Kharkiv prosecutors. The videos show the top of the mast abruptly breaking, rotating 180 degrees, and subsequently falling to the earth. Smoke had already started billowing from the tower, clearly displaying the impact of the missile.

Subsequent footage shared on social media depicts the fallen mast lying among trees at the base of the tower. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as the tower's staff had taken shelter when the attack took place. However, the digital TV signal in the city has been experiencing interruptions as a result of the damage inflicted upon the tower.

Kharkiv, which is located only 30 kilometers from the border with Russia, has unfortunately seen a significant uptick in Russian strikes this year. Just a month ago, the city's primary power plant was destroyed in a similar Russian attack, leaving all electricity substations inoperable, as reported by the mayor.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the alarming attack on the TV tower during a phone conversation with his US counterpart, President Joe Biden. President Zelensky stated that Russia's intentions appeared to be making Kharkiv "uninhabitable." These repeated strikes on Ukraine's second-largest city have prompted Kyiv to prioritize strengthening its air defenses through new military aid from the United States.

The situation in Kharkiv remains tense as the city struggles to recover from the destruction caused by the missile strike. Authorities are working to address the interrupted TV signal and ensure the safety of the residents as tensions between Ukraine and Russia continue to escalate.

It is crucial for the international community to remain vigilant and address the ongoing aggression that threatens the stability and security of the region.
