In a display of military might and cooperation, the Russian and Chinese navies commence "Ocean-24" exercises, involving a vast array of warships, submarines, and support vessels. This joint maneuver spans across multiple oceans and seas, cementing the growing alliance between the two nations.

Announced by the Russian Defense Ministry, the "Ocean-24" exercise brings together over 400 warships, submarines, and support vessels, along with 120 planes and helicopters. More than 90,000 troops are taking part in these drills, which extend through September 16.

Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed the exercise as the largest of its kind in three decades. He confirmed China's participation, stating that Chinese warships and planes have joined forces with the Russian military. China, in turn, acknowledged its involvement, but provided no further details.

Observing the drills are representatives from 15 countries, although no specific nations were named by Putin. The Russian President emphasized the importance of strengthening military cooperation with friendly states, particularly given the growing geopolitical tensions in the world.

During the announcement, President Putin voiced his concerns about the United States' pursuit of maintaining global military and political dominance at any cost. He accused the U.S. of attempting to undermine Russia in its conflict with Ukraine and disrupt the balance of power in the Asia-Pacific region.

The joint exercises between Russia and China are a significant move in their efforts to challenge the Western-led liberal democratic order. Russia has long sought to bolster its influence as a Pacific power, and through cooperation with China in these drills, they appear to be inching closer to that goal. In return, Russia has supported China's territorial claims in the South China Sea and other regions.

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov explained that the drills aim to simulate scenarios such as repelling large-scale aggression from potential adversaries, countering unmanned boats and aerial vehicles, and defending naval bases. The exercises will also focus on conducting amphibious operations and escorting transports.

The "Ocean-24" joint naval and air drills demonstrate the increasing alignment between Russia and China. As these two nations continue to strengthen their military ties, the balance of power in global politics may undergo significant changes.
