### Suspect Surrenders in Richmond Assault Case, Three Persons of Interest Identified
RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond Police Department has reported significant developments in the case of the fatal assault on a 26-year-old man in Scott's Addition. The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on a Saturday, at the intersection of West Marshall and North Sheppard streets. Officers arriving at the scene found Jacob Baldwin from Chesterfield County with severe head injuries.
Following the assault on October 12, Baldwin succumbed to his injuries and passed away on October 16 in a local hospital. The investigation quickly progressed when Nico Rivera, 27, of Mechanicsville, turned himself in to the authorities on October 19 and was subsequently charged with second-degree murder.
In connection with the case, detectives had been seeking three persons of interest — two women and one man— who they believed might provide crucial information about the incident. These individuals were sought not as suspects but as potential sources of valuable insights.
By October 21, police confirmed that they had successfully identified and contacted all three persons of interest. This step has been crucial for the ongoing investigation, which aims to gather a comprehensive understanding of the events leading to Baldwin's tragic death.
The police department emphasized that they do not consider these individuals as suspects and are not pursuing any additional suspects related to this assault.
