In a shocking turn of events, the remains of a woman and her daughter, who had been missing for nearly 24 years, were discovered at a residence in southern West Virginia. This coincided with the death of the alleged killer, Larry Webb, while he was imprisoned, according to state police.

The suspect, Webb, confessed to shooting and killing Susan and Natasha "Alex" Carter due to financial troubles during a press conference held by officials. Susan Carter, 41, and her daughter had not been seen since August 8, 2000.

Following an ongoing investigation, members of the West Virginia State Police and the FBI found the remains believed to be those of Susan and Natasha at Webb's residence. The discovery was made the same day that Webb, who was in his 80s, suffered a medical episode at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex. Sadly, Webb was pronounced dead at a hospital, six hours before the remains were found.

At the time of their disappearance, Susan Carter was involved in a custody battle with Natasha's father. According to an FBI flyer from that time, she had threatened to prevent him from seeing their daughter. It was reported that Carter and Natasha had been residing in Webb's home when they vanished.

The case had garnered renewed attention in December 2021 when the FBI Pittsburgh office announced an increased reward of $20,000 for any information leading to answers in the long-standing mystery. Over the course of the investigation, search warrants were executed at Webb's residence in both 2022 and 2023, resulting in the recovery of additional evidence.

When questioned by the media during one search, Webb claimed to have dementia and could not remember what happened to Natasha or when he last saw her. However, Raleigh County Prosecutor Ben Hatfield revealed that financial irregularities precipitated a violent domestic situation, leading Webb to allegedly shoot Susan Carter, believing she had mishandled his finances. Tragically, he then reportedly killed Natasha to avoid detection for Susan's murder.

Webb was indicted on a murder charge in October last year and was initially held at a medical facility. He was later arrested on April 12 after being deemed medically fit for incarceration, according to authorities.

The discovery of the remains brings a sense of closure after more than two decades of uncertainty for the friends and family of Susan and Natasha Carter. The investigation into this tragic case continues, and authorities are determined to uncover any further details surrounding their untimely demise.
