**Jake Paul's Win Over Mike Tyson Draws Massive Netflix Viewership Amid Buffering Woes**
Friday night saw a historic boxing match as Jake Paul emerged victorious against Mike Tyson in a unanimous decision, captivating a large audience on Netflix. Despite multiple complaints about streaming issues, 60 million viewers tuned in live to watch the final bout, while 50 million watched the co-main event featuring Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor, which is expected to become the most-viewed professional women's sporting event in U.S. history according to a social media post by Netflix.
"The boxing mega-event dominated social media, shattered records, and even had our buffering systems on the ropes," Netflix shared on Saturday via X, the social media platform. The streaming issues were numerous, with users voicing their frustrations over buffering throughout the event. This raised concerns about Netflix's capability to handle major live sports broadcasts, especially with two NFL games scheduled for the platform on Christmas Day.
Down Detector reported a staggering 88,000 issues with the stream on Friday night. Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy described the event as "unwatchable" in a post on X. For those who managed to endure the technical difficulties, the spectacle was memorable, featuring Tyson, aged 58, stepping back into the ring for the first time since 2005 amidst concerns about his health. Initially postponed from July, Tyson’s match with Paul showcased a battle of generations.
Tyson candidly shared his sentiments post-fight, stating, "I didn't prove nothing to anybody, only to myself. I'm not one of those guys that looks to please the world. I'm just happy with what I can do." The event was marked by Tyson’s return to the ring despite serious health concerns earlier this year, including undergoing eight blood transfusions and a significant weight loss of 25 pounds.
Jake Paul, a rising boxing star and YouTube sensation, expressed his respect for Tyson after the match, acknowledging Tyson's legendary status in the world of boxing. "He is exactly what I thought," Paul said. "He's an icon. He's a legend. I wanted to give fans a show, but I didn't want to hurt someone who didn't need to be hurt."
In the co-main event, Katie Taylor triumphed over Amanda Serrano in a controversial decision, securing her second consecutive victory against Serrano with all three judges scoring a narrow 95-94 win in Taylor's favor.
Despite the technical glitches, the event proved to be a significant draw, setting new records and stirring conversations across social media platforms.
