### Biden and Trump to Meet in Oval Office for Transition Discussions
The White House announced on Saturday that President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump are scheduled to meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday. This meeting, set for 11 a.m. local time, was extended as an invitation by President Biden, according to Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
Traditionally, a meeting between the outgoing president and the incoming president marks the beginning of a peaceful transition of power in American democracy. Notably, Mr. Trump bypassed this custom after his loss in the 2020 election, declining to host Mr. Biden for a similar sit-down.
Donald Trump, who was the 45th president of the United States, will soon make history by becoming the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms. This distinction is shared with Grover Cleveland, who held office as both the 22nd and 24th president.
Mr. Trump's recent electoral victory on Tuesday solidified his return to the presidency with at least 301 electoral college votes, significantly surpassing the required 270 electoral votes, leaving behind Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a speech delivered on Thursday, President Biden emphasized his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition. He stated, "I would direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That's what the American people deserve."
