President Biden has called upon his Cabinet to convene for the first time in almost a year to expedite the execution of his policy objectives. This directive comes as the administration seeks to highlight its achievements and commitments. Notably, it has been over a quarter of a century since Congress fully funded the federal government on schedule through appropriation bills.

The current focus of House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer does not center on passing comprehensive spending bills promptly. The leaders are engaged in negotiations to delay the issue and avert a government shutdown using interim measures. Following a recent unsuccessful vote on a stopgap measure for government spending, Speaker Johnson hinted at a backup plan to senior Republicans without disclosing details.

The unexpected setback in the stopgap vote marked a challenging moment for Speaker Johnson, who had aimed to establish a record on the SAVE Act but faced setbacks. Despite the turbulence, there appears to be bipartisan optimism regarding funding for the Secret Service following the failed House vote. Leaders such as Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are considering additional funding for the agency to address the heightened security needs of former President Trump.
