**Tensions Rise as Broncos Defeat Panthers with Controversial Play Calls**
In an unexpected postgame incident, Denver Broncos' head coach Sean Payton faced heated accusations from Carolina Panthers' cornerback Jaycee Horn following a decisive 28-14 victory for the Broncos. The exchange, captured on video by 9News Sports Denver, saw Horn alleging that Payton intentionally tried to inflate the score in the latter stages of the game.
The Broncos were in control early on, heading into halftime with a comfortable 21-7 lead over the struggling Panthers. Their dominance continued as they extended the score to 28-7 by the end of the third quarter. However, it was the coaching decisions in the fourth quarter that sparked controversy. Denver opted for trick plays despite their substantial lead, including a fake in place of a field goal on a fourth-and-8 situation at Carolina's 42-yard line and a 28-yard double pass on a fourth-and-2 at Carolina's 43-yard line.
Carolina managed a second touchdown in garbage time, but it wasn't enough to alter their fate, leaving them with a 1-7 record for the season. Dave Canales, in his inaugural season as the Panthers' head coach, addressed the contentious play calling. "They're just competing," Canales stated to WBTV. "He's just competing trying to stay on the field, run the clock out and end the game in that situation. And if it happens to be the call that was set up there, that's their decision to make."
Payton, reflecting on the confrontation with Horn, shared that he had coached Horn's father, Joe Horn, in New Orleans back in 2006. "I coached his father, and so I was yelling back at him," Payton told CBS Sports. "I don't know what the exchange was, but his father I enjoyed coaching. He was frustrated, I think he was yelling at one of our other players. I like him, I think he's a good player."
Despite his praise for Jaycee Horn, Payton did not hold back his critique of the Panther’s overall performance. "I said this, it's not a good offense we played. It's just the truth," Payton remarked. "So we expected that, and we're going to see a lot better teams."
Looking ahead, the Broncos, now with a 5-3 record, will face challenging back-to-back games against the Ravens (5-3) and the undefeated Chiefs (7-0). The Panthers, meanwhile, are set to visit the Saints (2-6) in New Orleans before making a trip to Germany for a match against the Giants (2-6) on November 9.
