As Vice President Kamala Harris accepts the Democratic presidential nomination, national polls are indicating a shift in popularity between her and former President Donald Trump. Previously, Trump had held a slight lead, but recent surveys reflect changes in public opinion regarding the two candidates' abilities and stances on various issues.

According to a Gallup poll released on Thursday, Harris witnessed a significant increase in her approval rating, growing by 13 percentage points to reach 47%. Conversely, Trump experienced a five-point drop, landing him at 41%. Among Democrats, Harris' approval rating soared to 93%, while 41% of independents and 5% of Republicans hold a positive opinion of the Vice President.

Gallup suggests that Harris' unexpected position as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee contributed to the rise in positivity around her, particularly within her own party. The nomination acceptance speech and the upcoming debate on September 10th will play a crucial role in shaping perceptions of Harris as the presidential campaign progresses.

The latest Emerson College poll reveals that Harris is now leading Trump by a margin of 50% to 46%, with 5% of respondents remaining undecided. Notably, this poll only considered individuals who indicated a high likelihood of voting, unlike previous surveys that included all registered voters. The results also highlight a two-point decrease in Trump's support among likely voters, while Harris surpassed Biden's previous support by three percentage points, securing her at 50%.

Age demographics seem to favor Harris, with voters under the age of 30 shifting their support towards her by nine points. Additionally, voters over the age of 70 now prefer Harris over Trump by a narrow margin of 51% to 48%. This marks a change from the previous month when they favored Trump by the same margin.

Consistency is key for Harris, as she has not trailed Trump in any daily tracking poll since late July. Morning Consult even noted a new high in her popularity, with an increasing number of voters expressing favorable opinions about her.

The Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll, conducted before the Democratic National Convention, showed Harris leading Trump among registered voters by 49% to 45%. When third-party candidates were added to the mix, Harris maintained an edge at 47%, with Trump at 44%. Notably, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who initially had 5% support, announced on Friday that he was suspending his campaign and endorsing Trump.

However, Trump has managed to maintain a small lead in some polls, such as the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey. This particular poll suggests that 49% of likely U.S. voters would cast their ballot for Trump, while 46% would vote for Harris. Two percent expressed support for other candidates, and an additional 2% remain undecided. The previous week's poll had Trump leading by four points.

As the presidential race continues to unfold, these shifting poll numbers reflect the changing dynamics of public perception towards both candidates. With the debates and further campaign events ahead, these statistics will remain critical benchmarks to gauge the candidates' trajectories in the race for the White House.
