In a recent poll conducted by DailyMail.com, it was found that former President Donald Trump would secure a victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in a hypothetical presidential election by 11 percentage points. The survey, which included responses from 1,000 likely voters, painted a concerning picture for the Democratic Party as Trump also maintained a lead over President Joe Biden by a margin of five points.

Speculation surrounding Harris potentially replacing Biden as the Democratic Party's nominee for the 2024 election has been ongoing, fueled by Biden's perceived poor performance in a CNN debate with Trump held on June 27. However, Biden and his team have dismissed any suggestions that he would withdraw from the reelection bid, effectively eliminating the possibility of Harris stepping forward as the nominee.

The poll has shed light on the popularity of Harris among voters when compared to other Democratic figures. Notably, Trump would defeat California Governor Gavin Newsom, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg by double-digit margins in a 2024 race. Pollster James Johnson observed that changing voters' perceptions of Harris may prove challenging due to her high name recognition and the baggage associated with her brand.

The survey also raised interesting points about potential candidates who performed better against Trump. Former first lady Michelle Obama, although not expressing any intention to enter politics, was found to fare better against Trump than Harris in a hypothetical match-up, losing by just five points.

Recently, a video emerged where Trump criticized Harris amid suggestions that she could replace Biden as the Democrats' nominee in 2024. Responding to the video, Sarafina Chitika, spokesperson for the Biden-Harris campaign, criticized Trump's record on various issues and highlighted what she considered to be his wrongdoings.

The offices of both Harris and Trump have been contacted for comment, but no response has been received so far.

As the 2024 election looms and speculation continues to swirl, the poll serves as a reminder of the challenges and popularity concerns that the Democratic Party may face in selecting their nominee against the potential reemergence of Donald Trump in the political arena.
