In a recent statement on Telegram, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) issued a warning to the United Kingdom and other nations considering deploying forces in the Gaza Strip. The Marxist-Leninist group declared that foreign troops would be treated as "occupation forces" if they entered Palestinian territory, and thus, considered legitimate targets for the resistance.
According to a report by the BBC, there had been discussions about the potential deployment of UK troops in Gaza to assist with aid deliveries through a temporary pier constructed by the United States. However, the PFLP vehemently opposed this idea, claiming that it was a "lie that does not deceive anyone." The group argued that such deployments were a ruse to justify the permanent presence of military forces serving "malicious colonial goals" and safeguarding the security of the Zionist entity.
Furthermore, the PFLP's statement highlighted the historical grievances between Palestinians and the UK, referring to the Balfour Declaration, which resulted in the establishment of the Zionist entity. The group accused Britain of supporting the occupation and its crimes against the Palestinian people, emphasizing that the people will not forget this major injustice.
The PFLP called for pressuring efforts to halt the aggression, break the siege, and ensure relief aid is brought through official crossings in Gaza and under Palestinian management and supervision. They firmly rejected any foreign military intervention as a solution to the ongoing crisis and insisted on a focus towards ending the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The current round of fighting in Gaza began on October 7th, following an attack by Hamas in southern Israel. The Gaza health ministry reported that since then, at least 34,454 people, mostly women and children, have been killed by Israel. Israel, on the other hand, claims that there are still 129 hostages captured on October 7th, including 34 they believe to be deceased.
The PFLP's military wing has already engaged in sporadic attacks in retaliation for Israel's assault on Gaza. Additionally, Israeli figures have accused PFLP supporters in Gaza of involvement in the October 7th attack.
It remains to be seen how these warnings and tensions between the PFLP and the UK, along with other potential foreign forces, will impact the situation in Gaza and efforts towards finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
