A Pennsylvania father is demanding answers from Keystone Elementary School and the Bristol Township School District after his 5-year-old son, Grayson, was allegedly assaulted by a fourth-grade special needs student. The incident, which left Grayson with a facial laceration and missing teeth, has sparked outrage and calls for action to ensure the safety of students.
According to attorney David Langsam, who is representing the Callahan family, the May 16 attack was not an accident as initially claimed by the school. Callahan revealed in a viral TikTok video that a teacher's aide, responsible for special needs students, failed to pay attention to the child involved, leading to the assault. The special needs student allegedly grabbed Grayson from behind and forcefully threw him into a table, causing the severe injuries.
Despite the incident being captured on surveillance video, the Callahan family has been denied access to the footage. Langsam expressed frustration at the lack of cooperation in granting them access, even though local police reportedly confirmed the disturbing nature of the footage. The family remains determined to understand how Grayson was injured.
The Bristol Township School District deflected inquiries to the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (BIU), which houses a special education program at Keystone Elementary School. A BIU spokesperson acknowledged the incident and stated that they have initiated a thorough investigation in coordination with the school district. The spokesperson reassured that appropriate action would be taken based on the investigation's outcome, and they are in contact with both families involved.
Langsam emphasized that the Callahan family hopes to effect change within the system to prevent other parents from receiving such distressing phone calls. Aside from the physical injuries, the emotional trauma experienced by Grayson may have long-lasting effects. The 5-year-old no longer feels safe at school, and it has impacted his willingness to attend important events like his kindergarten graduation.
In his TikTok video, Callahan announced that Grayson would not be returning to the school. He placed blame squarely on the teacher's aide and stated that he is not pursuing legal action against the special needs child or their parents. Instead, he called for accountability on the part of the school officials involved.
As the investigation proceeds, the community is anxiously awaiting the findings and hoping that necessary measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. It is a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students.
