In a shocking twist to the tragic rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the parents of the victim have provided the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with a list of several interns and physicians from the hospital who they suspect may be involved in the crime. The CBI, which is now leading the investigation under orders from the Calcutta High Court, has prioritized the questioning of these individuals along with officers from the Kolkata Police who were previously involved.
According to a CBI officer, the parents informed them that they believe multiple people were responsible for the sexual assault and murder of their daughter. They have shared the names of a few interns and doctors who had worked alongside the victim in the hospital. Acting swiftly, the CBI has already identified around 30 suspects and initiated questioning.
To aid in the investigation, the CBI has summoned a house staff member and two post-graduate trainees who were on duty with the victim on the night of the horrific incident. Former hospital principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh has also been brought in for questioning after resigning just two days after the woman's body was discovered. Dr. Ghosh mentioned concerns of personal safety and sought protection from the Calcutta High Court. However, he was directed to approach a single bench.
In a significant development, the CBI used an advanced 3D reconstruction method to recreate the crime scene in the seminar hall of the hospital. The accused, who has already been arrested and is reportedly a civic volunteer, was made to walk through the recreated scene, providing valuable evidence for the investigation.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the opposition CPI(M) and the BJP of orchestrating vandalism at RG Kar Hospital and attempting to distort the truth behind the rape-murder case. Addressing a rally, she expressed the government's commitment to uncover the truth and bring the culprits to justice. In response, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized the opposition leaders for what he referred to as their selective outcry over crimes against women, urging them to prioritize justice over politics.
The horrifying incident has sparked widespread protests across the country, with medical students and doctors demanding stronger measures to ensure the safety of medical professionals in hospitals and workplaces. The calls for a new law to address this issue continue to grow louder as the nation grapples with the tragic loss and seeks justice for the victim and her grieving family.
The CBI is leaving no stone unturned as it delves deeper into the investigation, determined to unveil the truth and ensure that all those responsible for this heinous crime face the harshest punishment.
