In a shocking incident, a New Jersey man has been arrested after allegedly flying to Florida to physically assault a rival player he became enraged with while playing an online video game. The 20-year-old suspect, Edward Kang, reportedly caught an overnight flight from Newark Liberty International Airport to Jacksonville International Airport before carrying out the attack in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper described the case as "weird" and stated that it involves elements that are difficult to believe. Kang's anger towards his rival in the multiplayer game ArcheAge apparently grew to such an extent that he informed his mother he was visiting a friend in Florida and subsequently departed for the Sunshine State.

Authorities discovered that Kang arrived at a hotel in Florida at 2 a.m. on Friday. The following day, he stopped at an Ace Hardware store, where he purchased a hammer and a flashlight. It is alleged that he then proceeded to dress in black attire, donning a mask and gloves before sneaking into the victim's residence in Fernandina Beach.

The victim's stepfather reported being awakened by cries for help and rushed to the scene, where he found his stepson struggling with Kang, who was armed with a hammer. Both individuals managed to restrain the attacker until law enforcement arrived. While the victim sustained severe head injuries during the assault, they are fortunately not considered life-threatening.

Kang is currently in custody at the Nassau County Jail, facing charges of attempted murder and burglary. Authorities have revealed that he is not cooperating with the investigation. When questioned about his motive, Kang reportedly admitted to being a malevolent presence online and disparaging the victim. He also inquired about the potential legal consequences of breaking and entering and assault.

Sheriff Leeper expressed his disbelief towards the case and emphasized that Kang's actions would likely result in a lengthy prison sentence. "It's gonna be a long time before you play video games again," he said.

The incident serves as a striking reminder of the consequences that can arise from online conflicts escalating into real-life violence. Authorities are urging individuals to seek peaceful resolutions and practice responsible gaming behavior. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details regarding the motive and potential legal ramifications are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
