Oklahoma State Star Running Back Ollie Gordon II Faces Internal Punishment Following DUI Arrest

LAS VEGAS - Oklahoma State star running back Ollie Gordon II will not be suspended for any game time following his recent arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. Instead, he will face internal discipline, according to coach Mike Gundy, who addressed the issue at the Big 12 media days on Tuesday.

Gordon, who led the FBS in rushing yards last season with 1,732, was pulled over by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer last week for driving at a speed of 82 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone. The affidavit states that he was also seen swerving through traffic. During the traffic stop, open bottles of vodka and tequila were found in Gordon's car, and he claimed to have had only one drink.

The trooper took Gordon to the Cleveland County jail in Oklahoma, where he provided breath samples that indicated a breath alcohol content of .11 and .10. He was subsequently charged with DUI under 21 years of age, possessing an open alcohol container, failing to maintain a single driving lane, and speeding. Gordon was released on bond.

Coach Gundy expressed concern for Gordon's actions, emphasizing the potential for harm. "He's very fortunate that somebody didn't get injured," Gundy told The Athletic. "That's way more important than any embarrassment for him and his family." Gundy stated that Gordon will not be sheltered from the consequences of his actions and will be required to face the media.

Gundy justified the decision to not suspend Gordon by citing the business aspect of college football. "He's going to play," Gundy declared. While the internal discipline was not disclosed, Gundy reassured that Gordon will experience significant consequences for his behavior.

Gordon himself is scheduled to meet with the media later on Tuesday, providing an opportunity for him to address the incident.

The arrest of Ollie Gordon II, the FBS leading rusher, has raised questions about the handling of disciplinary matters in college football. As the sport continues to evolve into a big business, coaches like Gundy are faced with the challenge of balancing the team's interests with the need for accountability.

It remains to be seen how the internal punishment will impact Gordon's future both on and off the field. As a key player for Oklahoma State, his actions and subsequent discipline will undoubtedly influence the team's dynamics going forward.
