### Ohio State Falls to Michigan Again, Misses Key Opportunities in Offensive Struggles
Following a tough defeat at the hands of Michigan, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day expressed his frustration over the game and the events that transpired on the field. “I don’t know all the details of it but I know these guys are looking to put a flag on our field and our guys weren’t going to let that happen,” Day stated in his postgame news conference. Despite Ohio State’s efforts to hold their ground, it was a disappointing day as the Buckeyes lost to Michigan for the fourth consecutive time under Day’s leadership.
Michigan, entering the game as significant 19.5-point underdogs, managed to maintain an unbeaten streak against Ohio State since 2019. This marked the first four-game winning streak for Michigan over Ohio State since 1992, rounding off a series of victories that harks back to Urban Meyer's tenure when Ohio State won seven straight games. Sawyer and other Ohio State seniors had hoped to secure a victory to cap off their college careers but found themselves struggling against Michigan’s defense.
Ohio State’s offensive problems were glaring, especially in the game’s final moments. The Buckeyes failed to secure any first downs throughout the fourth quarter, with their last successful attempt coming late in the third quarter. Jayden Fielding’s missed field goals inside 40 yards further compounded their challenges. Both teams suffered from turnovers, with each quarterback throwing two interceptions, three of which occurred in the red zone, highlighting the messy offensive displays on both sides.
The combined offensive output for both teams amounted to a modest 486 total yards and 29 first downs. Ohio State’s Will Howard completed 19 of 33 passes for 175 yards, while Michigan's offense relied heavily on the ground game, rushing 42 times for 172 yards but managing only 62 passing yards. A critical error by Ohio State’s coaching staff regarding defensive personnel in the final minutes allowed Michigan to extend their control of the clock, further diminishing Ohio State’s chances.
As the regular season comes to a close, Ohio State faces an uncertain road ahead. Despite a 10-2 record, a Big Ten title seems unlikely due to the need for specific results from other games. However, their hopes for a national title remain alive, potentially securing a spot in the 12-team playoff field. The Buckeyes must now regroup and reflect on their missed opportunities as they prepare for the postseason.
